Abstract
362,689. High pressure joints. BOYCE, S. R. and LUNDY, F. S., Norton Hall, The Green, Norton-on-Tees, and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. Dec. 18, 1930, No. 38247. [Class 122 (iii).] In a high-pressure joint for the covers of vessels used i n t h e synthetic - ammonia industry, for pipe joints &c., the sea] between the parts 1, 2 is effected by a steel or other hard metal, cup-section ring 4 the internal surface of which is exposed to high-pressure, and the outer surface of which is convex to provide line or band contact. The engaging seating-surfaces are brought into contact at the points 10, 11 by means of bolts 3. The collapse of the cup-walls is prevented by an auxiliary ring 7 provided with a vent 8. In a modification, the ring 4 is of U-shape section and abuts against the parts to be joined to prevent radial movement of the ring.
