[Also in Division E1] A pipe joint for drill stems comprises a screwthreaded spigot 7 and socket 2 and a ring 11 arranged to fit in the groove 10 formed between the shoulder 9 of the upper pipe 6 and the end face 5 of the lower pipe 1. The ring is made of high-strength or wear resisting material and of different material to that of the pipes, has flanges 12 to protect the pipe ends from beading outwardly and can be replaced by a larger ring to compensate for wear of the screw-threads 3, 8.
