Abstract
691,685. Stuffing-box substitutes. DEHN, S. G. (Chiksan Co.). Nov. 7, 1949, No. 28480/49. Class 122(v) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a swivel joint for pipes in which a socket member Y has a counterbore forming a bearing 28 for a reduced extension 27 of a spigot member B attached to the socket by a clamping section X forming a separate part of the socket, the joint is sealed by a bellows member 40 having axially directed flanges 50, 51, Fig. 2, at its periphery. The flange 50 is secured to the inner surface of a ring 41 clamped between shoulders 11, 55 of the parts Y, X. The flange 51 is secured to the outer surface of a ring 60 carried by a ring 42, which is in rubbing contact with a ring 43 bearing against a shoulder 66 of the spigot. A ring of balls 30 is located in aligned grooves in the spigot and socket. A filling and lubricating plug 33 and a lubricantretaining ring 34 are provided for the ball-race.
