667,052. Stuffing-box substitutes. DEHN, S. G., (Chiksan Co.). Sept. 21. 1949. No. 24267/49. Class 122(v). [Also in Group XXYIII] In a swivelling spigot-and-socket joint for pipes a unitary sealing structure comprises a sealing ring 51 and a positioning sleeve 52 connected by a resilient bellows member 50, the ring engaging the shoulder 26 of the spigot 20, and the sleeve fitting a recess in the base of the socket 10. The ring has a stepped bearing surface 68, and the sleeve is recessed to receive the reduced extension 34 of the spigot. The joint has ball bearings 40 which are introduced through an opening 41. The plug 42 has a lubricating nipple 43. A packing ring 90 is provided for retaining the lubricant.
