Abstract
316,751. Saunders, S. E. July 7, 1928. Cars.-Aircraft bodies of the kind in which interior panels of wood b are sheathed in an outer skin of metal a, the butt joints at the junction of the panels are rendened watertight by providing each metal sheath with an extended edge d which is bent inwards at right angles to form interior flanges lying in contact with the edges of the panel. The abutting flanges are bolted at f. Various modifications are described for applying transverse framing members to the flanges, the frames including angle, channel, bulb angle, double channel U and H sections. Fig. 6 shows a transverse member g of angle section, and Fig. 17 a bull head rod o. In this case the flanges are bent over to lie on the inner face of the panel.
