Abstract
1,003,120. Railway vehicle undercarriages. GENERAL STEEL INDUSTRIES Inc. Nov. 5, 1963, No. 43707/63. Heading B7L. A railway locomotive bogie comprises three wheel axles 3, 5, 7, Fig. 1, having axle boxes 9, equalizers 11, Fig. 2, supported on the boxes 9 and a frame having side members 13 supported on springs 23 on the equalizers, the frame comprising end transoms 15, 17 and intermediate transoms 19, 21 respectively disposed between the axles 3, 5 and 5, 7, the transom 21 being upwardly arched as a whole between its ends and provided with a centre pivot bearing 33, whilst the transom 19 is provided adjacent its ends with horizontal side bearer surfaces 29 and is depressed as a whole between its ends to a level substantially lower than the bottom of the arched transom. The upward arching and depressing of the transoms is to facilitate passage thereunder and thereover of driveshafts C2, C1 connecting a gear-box G1 on the centre axle with gear-boxes G3, G2 on the end axles. The centre gear-box has an upwardly projecting input portion I connected by a shaft M with an hydraulic transmission T and engine (not shown) mounted on the locomotive underframe U. The latter has a body centre plate 35 to engage the centre bearing 33 and feet 37 to engage the side bearings 29.
