Abstract

1,058,443. Bearings. WAGON REPAIRS Ltd. July 29, 1963 [Aug. 10, 1962], No. 30695/62. Heading F2A. A railway axle box comprises resilient shockabsorbing means, e.g. a pad (41) of neoprene or similar rubber, Fig. 4 (not shown), operative between the lower box part (15), Fig. 3 (not shown), and the axle (11) to resist relative movement thereof. The pad (41) is disposed in a recess (40) in the part (15) so as to normally clear the circumferential surface of the journal thrust shoulder (13) by about 1/16 inch. In Fig. 2 (not shown), a further pad (43) similar to the pad (41), is associated with the journal thrust shoulder (12). The box also has a lubricating pad (38) having fabric tails which descend through a hole (39) to an oil sump (37). The Specification also describes resilient shockabsorbing pads operative between the upper box part and upper journal bearing as disclosed in Specification 1,058,442.
