Class 113(1) In a ship having a deck 4 with a hatch 7 and one or more cargo decks 5 with hatches 10 surrounded by catwalks 5a and bounded by bulkheads 6, cargo supporting decks 30 comprising deck plates 31 supported on rollers 33 are moved on to the hatch cover 29 to be under the hatch 7 for loading and moved outboard on rails 35 on the deck beams to the stowage position.. Cargo is held on the cargo supporting decks 30 by retainers 37 comprising stanchions 38 and battens 39, The cargo supporting decks are connected by cables in such a manner that they move in opposite directions at the same speed and for the same distance, one set of cables 51, 51<SP>1</SP> being connected to a ring 55 at one end of the decks, pull on which moves the decks inboard while another set is connected to a similar ring at the other end, pull on which moves the decks outboard. The rings may be connected to the hook 24 which forms part of the cargo hoisting machinery 11 comprising king posts 12 and spanner 19, cargo booms 14 with vangs 17 secured to vang posts 18 and topping cables 15 operated by topping lift winches 16, and cargo cables 23 operated by cargo winches 27, all of which are mounted on a table 13.
