Abstract
997,672. Gantry cranes on trawlers. E. C. GOLDSWORTHY. May 16, 1963 [May 21, 1962], No. 19445/62. Heading B8B. A trawl net is hoisted inboard by a travelling hoist 6, Fig. 1, on a gantry 5 supported amidships by a pair of masts 1, 2, Fig. 2, and a beam 4. The cod end of the net is lifted by a hawser 7 which passes round the hoist 6 and the trawl boards 19, Fig. 1, are moved to positions beneath the masts by hawsers 13, 14, Fig. 2, and winches 17, 18. Hawsers 24, 25 which run over pulleys 20, 21 lift the cod-end over the port or starboard quarter bulwarks of the ship. In a second embodiment, Fig. 4, a gantry 33 is movable fore and aft along rails 31, 32, Fig. 5, which are supported by masts 28, 29, and carries a movable hoist 34. To compensate for the roll of the ship the beam 5, Fig. 6, of the first embodiment may be mounted on pivots 37. Three fore and aft rails may be provided to support the gantry 33 in the second embodiment.
