Abstract

1519241 Barge-carrying ship MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK 8 Jan 1976 [28 Jan 1975 26 March 1975] 619/76 Heading B7A A vessel to carry barges 1 at a plurality of of levels in a hold, and also on an upper deck above the hold, comprises longitudinally extending rails for transport of the barges along the ship on one or more trucks 11 at each level and on the deck, and means, e.g. an elevator 8, at one end of the ship, e.g. the stern, to lift the barges out of the water and transfer them selectively to the upper deck or hold. An elevator 6 is disposed amidships to transfer barges between the deck and the hold. The ship's hold has no intermediate decks. The rails 13, 23 and 24 are disposed on the sides of the hold. Trucks 11 engage each end of a barge and transport it to its position, possibly under their own power. When in position the trucks lower the barge on to rests 18. In Figs. 9 to 13, not shown, the ship has astern doors (110) with rail sections (115) on which the trucks can run to engage the barges. The ship has a control system for movement of the barges, with alarms to indicate irregular movements.
