Abstract
726,248. Fuel injectors. BOSCH GES., R. April 1, 1953 [April 12, 1952], No. 8986/53. Class 7 (3). A fuel pressure operated needle valve 2 has conical surfaces at its end resting on conical surfaces in the injector body 1, the conical angles a and # of the conical surfaces of the body and valve upstream of the actual contact area differing by less than 20 degrees and the angles # and γ of the corresponding surfaces downstream of the contact area differing by 0À5 degrees to 4 degrees. In Fig. 1 the valve and body have line contact and the difference between the angles α and # is 10 degrees, the angle # being equal to the angle α. In a modification, Fig. 2, the valve and body have contact over a conical area of height h and the valve body is provided with a third conical portion of angle # which is 3 degrees greater than the angle α, the angle # being preferably 2 degrees greater than the angle y. In further modifications the angles a and # differ whilst the angles # and # are equal. The fuel is sprayed through injection orifices 4 but the invention is also applicable to injectors having an annular spraying orifice formed between the injector body and a pin carried on the end of the needle valve.
