Abstract
760,852. Fuel injecters. CLAYTON DEWANDRE CO., Ltd. May 9, 1955 [June 11, 1954], No. 17282/54. Class 7 (3). [Also in Group XI] A fuel injector comprises a non-return valve 10, Fig. 1, which is lifted off its seat 11 by fuel pressure and is urged towards its seat by a diaphragm 12 formed with one or more fuel injection orifices 24, the diaphragm 12 being clamped between annular surfaces 13, 7, on an inner body member 1 and outer member 2, which latter has a centrally apertured end wall 4 adapted to form an abutment to limit the movement of the diaphragm. In Fig. 1 the valve 10 has a conical valve seating face and a spherical surface 14 abutting the diaphragm, grooves 26 in the spherical surface 14 permitting the fuel to reach the injector orifice 24. In a modification the conical valve head is integral with a cylindrical guide portion sliding in a bore in the part 1. In Fig. 4 the valve is a ball valve in contact with the diaphragm through a spacer member 17 provided with studs 31 which maintain a fuel flow space permitting the fuel to flow to the orifice 24. The spacer member 17 may be omitted, in which case the single orifice 24 is replaced by several orifices arranged laterally of the point of contact of the ball with the diaphragm. In Fig. 5 the valve is a poppet valve having a seating portion 11 and a spherical-shaped head portion 23 engaging the diaphragm, fuel passages 29, 30 being formed in the head.
