Abstract

720,916. Fuel injectors. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. April 13, 1953 [May 3, 1952], No. 10063/53. Class 7 (3). In a fuel injector comprising a valve with a conical seating end, the volume of the fuel chamber 12, Fig. 3, between the end of the valve when seated and the inner ends of the spraying holes 7 is not more than 0.6 times (and preferably not more than 0.4 times) the volume of a cone of the same angle as the conical end of the valve and with the largest cross-section of the valve seat 5 as its base, a groove 8 for the circulation of cooling liquid extends so near to the valve seat that the minimum distance A between the groove and the spraying holes 7 does not exceed the largest diameter D of the valve seat, and the length of each hole 7 is not more than four times its diameter. The injector is surrounded by a sleeve 2 closing the cooling chamber 8 and its supply and return passages 9. In Fig 3 the volume of the chamber 12 is about 0.25 times the volume of the cone defined above and it is produced by a conical counter-sinking tool with a rounded end, the conical angle of the tool being equal to or less than the conical angle of the valve and the maximum diameter of the tool being equal to the minimum diameter Dl of the valve seat.
