Abstract

738,360. Fuel injectors. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 27, 1953 [Nov. 8, 1952], No. 29657/53. Class 7(3). A spring-loaded fuel injection valve 21 opening in the direction of fuel flow is provided with a pintle 7 having a valve portion 13 seating on a valve seat 11, a first conical portion 33 downstream of the valve portion 13 and cooperating with the outer end 20 of the discharge passage to define an annular spraying orifice, a second conical portion 27 downstream of the first conical portion 33 for deflecting the fuel into a conical spray, and a cylindrical portion 35 between the conical portions 33, 27, which is positioned partly within the outlet 20 when the valve is seated, the first conical portion 33 having an apex angle of from 5 degrees to 15 degrees and the second conical portion 27 having an apex angle of from 20 degrees to 60 degrees. The valve stem is provided with a projecting head 22 which passes through a rectangular slot in the valve spring abutment 45 and, on rotation through 90 degrees, locks in a slot 49 on the end of the abutment. The portion of the valve pintle 7 below the valve 13 is provided with flats 23 to permit passage of the fuel and with guide lands 25.
