Abstract

1,182,392. Fuel injectors. PARKER-HANNIFIN CORP. April 26, 1968 [April 26, 1967], No.19995/68. Heading F1B. [Also in Division F4] In a fuel injector nozzle having a pilot nozzle 9 and a main nozzle 21 with a fuel pressure operated valve 48 in the supply passage to the main nozzle 21, the flow to the main nozzle is cut off, e.g. on failure of the valve stem or spring, by the valve head 48 closing an orifice 83 in a cut-off plate 80. The fuel enters through filter 34 and flows to the pilot nozzle 9 through passages 30, 32, 31, and tangentially directed openings 11 producing swirl in a chamber 8. The main fuel supply passes through orifices 74 to the valve and through orifice 83 and passage 76 to the main nozzle 21. The nozzle body parts 15, 26, and 51 are held in sealing relation by the screw-threaded cap 62 acting through spring member 61. The valve loading spring is adjusted by shims 73. In a modification Fig. 3 (not shown) the cut-off device comprises an orifice (103) in a partition (101) across a cylindrical member (115).
