Abstract
1300060 Fuel injection nozzles CAV Ltd 18 Feb 1970 [5 March 1969] 11683/69 Heading F1B A liquid supply nozzle comprises a valve member 20 slidable in a nozzle head 18 for controlling liquid flow through an orifice 22, resilient means formed from a tube 24 acting to a position in which flow is prevented and a chamber 23 for pressurized liquid which moves the valve member to permit flow through the tube to the chamber. In the arrangement shown the nozzle is mounted in cylinder head 10 of a compression ignition engine for injection of fuel into the combustion chamber thereof. Tube 24 is coiled in the form of a spring, the interior of which is supplied with fuel through a passage 27 in an end plug 26 attached to one end of the tube. Plug 26 is screwed into a body portion 15 and the spring compression can thus be adjusted by rotating the plug. The other end of tube 24 is secured to valve member 20 for the supply of fuel to passage 25 therein. Nozzle head 18 is retained in position between stop plate 17 and the lip of a member 16 screwed to body 15. An annular clearance space surrounds the nozzle and communicates via passage 33 with the adjacent air inlet passage 11 of the engine. Leakage fuel can drain into the clearance space through passages 31, 32.
