Abstract
717,389. Pipe connections. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Sept. 1, 1952 [Sept. 4, 1951], No. 21900/52. Class 99 (1). [Also in Group IX] An elastic sleeve 2, e.g. of rubber, fits partly over the ends of pipes 1, 3, and the internal diameter of one pipe is greater than the external diameter of the other pipe by at least four times the thickness a of the wall of the sleeve. The external surface of the pipe 1 may be provided with circumferential grooves. To make a connection between the pipes, the smaller pipe 3 is used to turn back the free end of the sleeve 2 into the pipe 1 and then inserted into the sleeve as shown in Fig. 2, after which the pipe 3 is withdrawn to reverse the whole of the turned-back portion of the sleeve, Fig. 4, and finally moved inwardly into the pipe 1 so that the sleeve folds over upon itself in the annular space between the pipes, Fig. 5. The pipes may form part of a suction thread-catching arrangement in a spinning machine (see Group IX).
