Abstract
To make it shrink-resistant, material consisting wholly or partly of wool is treated with an aqueous solution of N-bromacetamide at a pH not greater than 3 and not so low that the wool is subjected to hydrolysis. The material may include some cotton or rayon. In an example an all-wool fabric is immersed in an aqueous solution containing sulphuric acid and N-bromacetamide at a pH of 1.5 and after-treated with sodium bisulphite.
