Abstract

Yarns, fabrics or made-up garments consisting wholly or partly of wool are treated to reduce their tendency to felt shrinkage with an aqueous liquid containing a water-soluble bromate and formaldehyde, the pH of the liquid being below 3. The treating liquid may be at 0 DEG to 100 DEG C. In an example an all-wool fabric is immersed in an aqueous solution of potassium bromate, formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid, after-treated with a solution of sodium bisulphite and then neutralized with a solution of ammonia.
