Abstract

Yarns, fabrics or garments consisting wholly or partly of wool are treated to reduce their tendency to felt shrinkage with an aqueous liquid comprising a water-soluble bromate and a water-soluble bromide, the pH of the liquid being below 3.0. The treating liquid may be at 0 DEG to 100 DEG C. In an example an all-wool fabric is immersed in an aqueous solution containing potassium bromate, potassium bromide and hydrochloric acid, after-treated in a solution of sodium bisulphite and then neutralized with a solution of ammonia.
