Abstract
A linen-like or similar finish is produced on cotton fabrics by immersing the dry fabric in caustic soda solution of 10-20 DEG B<\>ae., at a temperature below 0 DEG C., for 10-30 seconds. The fabric is subsequently washed, acidified with weak sulphuric or hydrochloric acid and washed again, and may be subsequently subjected to a mechanical finishing treatment, e.g. calendering or mangling.
