Abstract

The size or emulsion used in the preparation of glass or other mineral fibre yarns or fabrics is removed by first treating the material in an aqueous soap or detergent solution and then subjecting the material to a short heat-treatment at 200 DEG to 290 DEG C. The heat-treatment may be effected by passing the material continuously through an oven. The detergent solution may be an aqueous solution containing a sulphated fatty alcohol or a nonionic detergent, a high boiling solvent and sodium carbonate. Between the treatments the material may be washed several times in boiling water, and dried.
