Abstract

295,488. Silver Springs Bleaching & Dyeing Co., Ltd., and Hall, A. J. July 9, 1927. Yarns, &c., mercerizing.-Yarns and fabrics of cotton, linen, or other material containing desulphurized viscose silk are mercerized with caustic potash. In an example, cotton fabric containing viscose in the warp or weft or both is treated with caustic potash of 60‹ Tw. at 30‹ C., stretched, washed with hot or cold water, passed through dilute sulphuric acid, and then washed and dried, the process up to the acidification occupying about 80 seconds. According to the Provisional Specification, caustic potash of strengths up to or exceeding 90‹ Tw. may be employed, and the treated material is stated to be less crushable and creasable than before mercerization.
