Abstract

336,067. Delubac, A. Sept. 7, 1929. Pile fabrics.-A fabric is made by opening out and flattening silk cocoons and sewing or otherwise fixing them upon a backing fabric such as calico, silk, or linen. The fabric is then subjected to the action of a bath which dissolves the sericin without attacking the fibroin, for example, a boiling solution containing 140 grams of soda in 100 litres of water. It is then washed in hot water and dried. The silk is then brushed, combed or beaten to raise the fibres. The material may be used for wearing apparel, for heatinsulating coverings and fluid-tight packings, or for medical purposes. The backing fabric may be fireproof.
