Abstract

Filtration of a gypsum-water slurry is improved by prior addition of a small quantity of a polyelectrolyte and of a wetting agent. Examples of polyelectrolytes: 60% hydrolysed polyacrylonitrile, sodium salt of 90% hydrolysed polyacrylonitrile, sodium salt of 100% hydrolysed polyethacrylonitrile, ammonium salt of 100% hydrolysed polymethacrylonitrile, sodium salt of methylene dinaphthalene sulphonic acid, alkali and ammonium salts of polysulphonic acids. p Example of wetting agent: a 30% aqueous solution of octyl phenol-ethylene oxide condensate. Quantities: 0.001 to 0.3 gram per 100 ccs. of slurry. The slurry obtained as a by-product in the treatment of rock phosphate with sulphuric acid and containing phosphoric acid was treated.ALSO:Filtration of a gypsum-water slurry is improved by prior addition of a small quantity of a polyelectrolyte and of a wetting agent.
