Abstract

707,541. Magnetrons. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Oct. 8, 1951 [July 6, 1950; Sept. 30, 1950], Nos. 16878/50 and 23964/50. Class 39(1) A robust miniature magnetron anode structure consists of pairs of plates 10 supported by box girders 4 so as to fit together to form a square or rectangular anode section. The anode plates 10 as shown in the form of channel girders, fit into rectangular openings 8 in the box girders, and are secured by tabs 9 passing through slits in the anode plates and bent over. The ends of a filamentary cathode or of a cathode heater are located by slotted mica plates 11 and tensioned by springs 12 mounted on channel girders 13. Support wires 6 and 14 are held in mica discs. The box girders 4 are also provided with tabs 7 for insertion into these mica discs. The cathode 1 may consist of the usual cylindrical sleeve or of multiple filaments. Four filaments may be arranged as two pairs located along the edges of an imaginary rectangular section cathode. The filaments may be arranged as a conical structure. A twin filament, arranged as a V may be used. The anode plates may be convex towards the cathode, as shown in Fig. 2. Typical operational curves are given for the magnetron described.
