Abstract

446,652. Thermionic cathodes. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Aug. 2, 1934, No. 22550. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Feb. 4, 1935]. [Class 39 (i)] In indirectly heated cathodes, the heater filament is spaced from the metal - coated insulator carrying the emissive material. The filament may be straight or in form of a spiral 1, Fig. 5, supported by a spring 7 and passing through blocks 6 closing the end of the space enclosing the heater in order to prevent electron flow from the interior of the electrode into the discharge space. A hairpin filament may be used and in this form the filament 1, Fig. 3 may be rectangular in cross section. In another arrangement four spirals 1, Fig. 4, may be used, each spiral having an insulating coating.
