Abstract
424,912. Thermionic cathodes. FERRANTI, Ltd., and EASTON, G. P., Hollinwood, Lancashire. Nov. 30, 1933, No. 33583. [Class 39 (i)] In an indirectly-heated cathode of circular crosssection, the heater comprises a plurality of separately insulated conductor wire lengths f which are held against the inner wall of the cathode a by suitable means leaving the inner space substantially unoccupied. The means may be a helix c or a thinwalled, optionally perforated, tube of nickel &c. Alternatively, plugs or cones may be inserted at each end of the cathode. The helix may be connected to the cathode at d or may act as a return lead for the heating current. If the cathode is closed at the top the helix c may be suspended therefrom. The heater wire may be formed into a fine helix before use.
