Class 113(1) In a ship's hatch having hatch covers b supported (when the hatch is closed) upon beams a which are movable across the hatch in a direction normal to their length, each cover is pivotally supported at e by a movable beam along the trailing edge of the cover, as determined by the direction in which the covers are moved when opening the hatch, and is supported at i along the opposite or leading edge by the preceding movable beam, or the end coaming of the hatch opening, in such a manner that each cover slides over the next preceding cover, or the end coaming of the hatch opening, during opening of the hatch. When moved completely together the covers take a partly elevated position, as shown in Fig. 3. The movable beams have semi-round ribs f to facilitate their moving along recesses d on the hatch coaming and are prevented from uplifting by means of a rail having gaps to enable the beams to be lifted off in definite positions.
