T., Walcot, Church Crookham, Aldershot, and HOLROYD, F., Old Hatch Manor, Ruislip, Middlesex. May 8, 1935, No. 13567. [Class 4] [See also Group XXI] An aircraft includes a bomb carrier mounted on the aircraft for movement transversely of the aircraft between a position where a bomb is to be stowed, for example, within the fuselage or wing, and a position from which it is to be released, for example, at a point intermediate the length of the wing and clear of the path swept out by the propeller. The bomb is carried by the beam 10 of a trolley 2 provided with known guiding and release mechanism and having end frames 6, 7, with rollers 8, 9, which run in channel members 11, 12 built into the aircraft and forming the side members of a guideway in the wing. The opening of the guideway is closed by a band 14 composed of slats and driven by rollers 15, 16, from a hand-operated pulley 19. The movement of the trolley may be effected by the band 14 or by separate chain and sprocket gearing. A portion 21 of the fuselage, which is moved with the trolley, is locked in position, when the bomb is stowed, by a door 22 which is opened downwardly if the bomb is to be released from its retracted position.
