Abstract

486,962. Vehicle fittings for loading. THOMAS, J. C., and HADLEY, D. G. Dec. 15, 1936, No. 34353. [Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] To facilitate loading, a portion of the floor of a vehicle is lowered in guide means to a position on or near the ground, the said guide means being slidably mounted on the vehicle so that it can be lowered to the ground. In the embodiment shown, the part 8 of the floor is mounted on transverse members 9 provided with rollers 10 engaging in channel members 6 which may be lowered to the ground within channel members 5 secured to the vehicle, the members 5, 6 being connected by a pin-and-slot connection 7. When the vehicle is to be loaded, a handle 16 is turned to a a cable 12, fixed to the vehicle at 13 and passing under pulleys 11 carried by the platform 8, to unwind from a drum 14 under the weight of the platform, whereby the platform falls downwardly within the channels 6 and these latter slide downwardly to the ground within the channels 5. The loaded platform is raised to floor level by re-winding the cable 12, the channels 6 being raised by the rollers 10 engaging their closed ends 6a after a predetermined upward movement of the platform.
