Abstract
265,063. Salonen, E. A. March 15, 1926, [Convention date]. Covers.-In order to convert a railway goods wagon into an open or closed wagon at will, the roof 22 is adapted to slide to either side of the wagon and then to be swung down alongside either side of the wagon, such roof, for loading purposes, preferably being combined with wagon sides which are divided into a convenient number of sections and so hinged as to be capable of folding over the ends of the wagon. The roof 22 is arranged to slide on rollers 26, Fig. 3, mounted on the ends of the wagon and is pulled to one side or the other by means of pairs of ropes 20 passing over pulleys 21 and winding on drums 19. During the first part of its movement the roof is guided by pins 28 on roof brackets 29, Fig. 4, engaging under guide plates 27 on the ends of the wagon, and the movement is limited by the engagement of hook portions 30 on the brackets 29 with pins 31 on the wagon. The roof is then tilted about the pins to the position shown in Fig. 4, and the pins may if desired be capable of being lowered so as to allow the roof to sink to the level of the side. Additional rollers 16, Fig. 3, for guiding the roof are mounted at the upper ends of the posts 14 for strengthening the sides.
