Abstract
446,991. Vehicle hoods. LONGMAN, W. C., 10, Charles Street, Regent Street, London.- (O.F.I.C.; 97, Boulevard Guovion, St. Cyr, Paris) Feb. 13, 1935, Nos. 4652 /35 and 4008 /36. [Class 108 (i)] In a vehicle collapsable hood having a rear upper panel the latter conforms to the streamline shape of the rear of the vehicle and is lowered into the back of the vehicle and raised therefrom as the hood is opened and closed. As shown, the collapsable hood comprising hoop sticks guided on rails has secured to its rear end a panel 8 having a roller 20 at each side adapted to run on the guide rail 1 and rollers 21 guided in slots 22 whereby the panel disappears into the vehicle body when the hood is opened. The hoop sticks 5 are provided with carriers guided on a rail 1 at each side by means of rollers. Certain of the carriers 3 are constrained to remain in contact with the guide rail by rollers 10, 11 whereas in the case of the carriers 4 the lower rollers 11 are omitted enabling the carriers 4 to move away from the guide rails 1 to permit folding of the hood cover 7. The second carrier is such a carrier and is linked by links 12, 13 to the carriers 3 and, as shown in Fig. 2, forms a cover for the recess into which the panel 8 disappears. The carriers 3, 4 are moved by means of a chain 14 at each side operated by sprockets 15 on a common shaft 16, the free ends of the chains being received in a container 17. In one of the Provisional Specifications the roof may be closed by relatively-slidable panels which are adapted to interengage.
