Abstract

1,217,988. Vehicle roofs. WAGGONFABRIK TALBOT. 6 May, 1969 [8 May, 1968], No. 22953/69. Heading B7L. A transport container 1 for, e.g. a rail vehicle has a longitudinally displaceable sliding roof 2 guided on its longitudinal sides, and formed from a strong flexible sheet of synthetic material and/or metal having a smooth surface, the roof being displaced from the closed position, by means of a drive, to beyond an end wall 1a of the container 1 where it may be folded vertically or horizontally on means which are swingably and/or slidably mounted on the container. The roof has on its underside a number of spaced wooden slats 2a normal to the longitudinal axis of the roof 2 and the drive comprises an endless belt 8, having dogs 9 to engage the slats 2a, mounted on a pair of pulleys 7, one cf which is driven by a chain 6 operated by a crank 4. A pair of U-shaped members 10 are pivoted to pins 12 in recesses 11 in the end wall 1a to rotate about vertical axes, and when pivoted away from the end wall they act as a frame to support the folds of the roof in the open position, Fig. 4. In another arrangement, Figs. 5, 6, 8, 9 (not shown), and Fig. 7, the end of the roof is attached on each side to one end of a lever 13 which is pivoted at 14 to swing out into a horizontal position as the roof is removed, the roof forming a vertical fold. Also attached to the roof on each side about half-way along are a pair of slides 15 which, on reaching the end wall 1a project therefrom to an extent limited by a pin 16 on the slide 15 engaging a stop 17 on the container, enabling a second vertical fold to form. In a further arrangement, Figs. 10, 11, 13 (not shown), and Fig. 12, the end of the roof 2 is attached at each side to a U-section slide 19 which on operation of the crank 4 projects horizontally from the end wall 1a, a pin 20 on the slide 19 engaging a stop 17. The slides 15 attached to the roof as before are adapted to slide within the slides 19 as shown, Fig. 12. In each case the extent of opening the roof 2 is limited by lugs 2b on the end of the roof 2 engaging a stop 1d on the container. When the roof 2 is closed, none of the apparatus projects beyond the end wall 1a.
