Abstract
447,304. Vehicle hoods. OVERTON, W., 10, Marsh Street, Walsall. Feb. 4, 1935, Nos. 3502 and 28182. [Class 108 (i)] In vehicle hoods of the kind in which the hood sticks of the flexible cover are carried by links pivoted to longitudinally guided carriage members, the links are provided with means which cause them to fold and unfold in succession. The hood sticks 3 are attached to plates 4 by screws and the plates 4 are pivoted to members 5 by pin-and-slot means the members 5 being pivoted by rods 9 in the hinge members 8 of adjacent links 10, 11. The other ends of the links 10, 11 are pivoted at 20 to slidable carriages 12 and have secured to them tail pieces 17, 18. The interaction of the tail pieces 17, 18 is shown in Figs. 5 to 8. Inunfolding or extending rotation into horizontal position of the leading link 10 of a pair causes its tail piece 17 to ride along the tail piece 18 of the trailing link 11 and ultimately clear it so that the latter link is free to turn. In reverse or folding order the link 11 becomes the leading link and rotates into vertical position its tail piece 18 ultimately freeing the tail piece 17 of the link 10 and a projection 29 on the link 11 when the latter reaches its folded position tripping a projection 28 on the link 10 to cause the hinge 8 of that link with the next adjacent link 11 to be broken to permit folding. The carriages 12 are moved by a chain 14, and sprocket gear 16 from a handle or motor.
