438,082. Vehicle hoods. SALMONS, G., 53, Tickford Street, and BALLS, A. H. DALBY-, 153, Tickford Street, Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. Oct. 11, 1934, No. 29137. [Class 108 (i)] In hoods in which the cant rail is linked to the back falling pillar the cant rail is caused to move in parallelism with the back pillar such that on lowering the pillar the cant rail is moved backwards in relation to the pillars. The rear section 1 of the divided cant rail 1, 2 is connected by links 8, 9, to an horizontal portion 7b of an arm 7 pivoted at 7<a> to the rear folding pillar 4 the end of the arm 7 being connected at 7e to a rod 10. An arm 13 pivoted at 13<a> to the folding pillar 4 is connected by link 12 by means of a pin-and-slot 12<a> to the section 1 and link 8 the other end of the arm 13 being connected by link 14 to the arm 7. On folding the rear section 1 moves in parallelism to the arm 7b and towards the pivot 4<a> of the folding pillow 4 to reduce over-hang. The end of the rear section 1 is adapted to connect with the folding pillow 4 when erected by means of a dove-tailed projection and groove 15, 15<a>. The link 9 is extended and forms a hoop stick 9<d> and is also connected by link 11 with the front section 2 of the cant rail. In a modification the extension 9<d>, Fig. 10, of the link 9 is separate therefrom and connected thereto by a pivot 9<a> and a pin 9f and aperture 9<g> to permit limited movement. To prevent rattle a spring-controlled bell-crank lever on the arm 7 may press on projections or rollers on the rear cant rail 1. Specifications 253,736, [Class 108 (i)], and 370,324 are referred to.
