Abstract

Hoods.-The forward cant-rail of the hood of a cabriolet, coupÚ, or the like is hinged, by an extension plate thereon, to the rear cant-rail, whereby it is projected rearwardly in the folded position, and it co-operates with a link pivoted on the forward pillar to effect the raising and lowering of that pillar and the rear part of the hood. The forward cant-rail 1 is provided with a plate 3 which is hinged at 5 to the rearward cant-rail 2. The cant-rail 2 is hinged by a plate 13 to a plate 7 on the pillar 4. The link 9 hinged to the plate 7 has a slot in which works a pin 10 on the cant-rail 1. In the first part of the folding movement of the cant-rail 1, the link 9 is turned to the vertical position by the pin 10, and the face 11 of the link then abuts against a ledge 8 on the plate 7 so that further movement of the link about its pivot 9<1> is prevented. Further movement of the cant-rail 1 lowers the pillar 4, cant-rail 2, and rear pillar 16 to the horizontal position, with the cant-rail 1 disposed above and parallel to the cart-rail 2 and the pin 10 at the extremity of the link 9. During the first part of the movement of the cant-rail 1 in unfolding the hood, the members 4, 2, 16 are again unaffected until the link 9 reaches the vertical position, whereupon the face 12 abuts against the ledge 8, and the continued movement of the cant-rail 1 raises these members. In the unfolded position, Fig. 1, the plate 3 bears on the top of the pillar 4 and, as the link 9 also bears on the ledge 8, a rigid joint is provided. The hinge-plate 13 of the cant-rail 2 has surfaces 14, 15 adapted to contact with the ledge 8. A locking-device for the joint of the cant-rail 2 to the pillar 16, such as described in Specification 114,218, may be provided, and is adapted to be actuated by a rod 18 connected to the link 9.
