Abstract

144,357. Harrison, W. W. March 5, 1919. Hoods.-Relates to hoods having the cant-rail connected to the rear pillar by links, so that it assumes a contracted position lying along the pillar when the hood is folded, and in which one of the links is connected to the rear stretcher bar, the joint of which is thus broken when the cantrail is lifted for folding. The cant-rail h is hinged at f<4>, i<2>, respectively to two links f, i which are hinged to the rear pillar c at f<3>, i<3>. The link f has an extension f<2> so that it forms a lever, and to this extension, and an extension e<3> of the stretcher bar e, is connected a link g. In the unfolded position, the pivot i<2> of the link : i lies above the line j joining the pivot f<4> of the link f and the pivot i<3> of the link i. Upon lifting the eant-rail h at its front end, it swings at first upon the pivot f<4> without movement of the link f. Further movement of the cant-rail causes the link f to move downwardly with the link i, thereby breaking the joint of the stretcher bar e to allow the pillar c to fall back about its hinge c<2>. The cant. rail takes up the position x with respect to the pillar in its completely-folded position. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 19019/12 and 0557/13.
