Abstract

496,589. Vehicle hoods. SALMONS, A. J. June 9, 1937, No. 15989. [Class 108 (i)] A folding hood device for fourdoor motor &c. vehicles comprises a cross rail E connecting hinged back pillars B, C to which the rear portion A of the hood is secured so that it may be folded down or erected to cover the rear part D of the vehicle, and inwardly-folding cant-rails 1, 2 each of sufficient length to extend over two doors one behind the other and connected to the pillars by vertical or substantially vertical hinges la, 2a offset relatively to each other, the rear hood-portion A being combined with a loose front-portion 3 securable at its forward end to a front rail 4 adapted for connection to the front pillars 5 or windscreen frame, and to the front ends of the cant-rails. A hoop-stick 6 may be provided connected at each end by pivoted links 7 to the cant-rails 1, 2 and adapted to engage recessed blocks 8 thereon. When the hood is collapsed the front portion 3 is rolled on the rail 4 and secured to the rear portion A by straps &c. after which the back pillars, rear portion A, inwardly-swung cantrails, and portion 3 are folded down on the rear of the body directly by hand or through manually-operated gearing.
