Abstract
322,612. Crisford, R. T. Nov. 6, 1928. Pivoted windscreen opening and closing apparatus.-Opening and closing means for a windscreen pivoted on horizontal pivots between vertical columns, comprises a horizontal rod 11 actuated by a handle 16 cm the interior of the vehicle in a convenient position below the screen, and worm or bevel gearing 12, 13. The rod 11 is operatively connected to tho windscreen by means of vertical rods 4 which may be rotated by bevels 17, 18 and provided with a screw-and-nut engagement with links such as 8 pivoted in housings 9 on the screen. The screen may be actuated by worm gearing or by pinions and arcuate racks from the rods 4. The rods 4 may be pivotally connected to the arms 8 on the screen and moved axially by rack-and-pinion gearing or by bevel-driven sleeves 26, Fig. 8, having a screw engagement with the rods. When the window is formed with an arched bottom edge, the rod 11 is made in two parts each provided with a bevel driven by the bevel on the operating shaft.
