Abstract

325,932. Edwards, E. Jan. 1, 1929. Windscreens.-In the adjustment of a framed panel of celluloid, glass, &c. constituting the windscreen of a vehicle, boat or aircraft, the upper edge 2 of the frame is displaced vertically in guides 4, while its lower edge 1<a> is constrained to move in a substantially horizontal plane. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, an adjusting arm 5 is pivoted at one end 6 to the frame 1 and at the other end is secured to a worm wheel 7 rotated through the medium of a worm 9 and handle 8. In a modification, the lower end of the frame 1 is connected to a rack which is associated with suitable guiding-means and actuated by a worm, worm-wheel and pinion. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the upper end 15 of the frame 1 is guided vertically by means of a rotatable spindle 16, and an arm 17 projecting from the frame is provided with pin 18 engaging a slot in the guide 4 to give the frame a simul. taneous tilting movement. In additional modifications a projecting arm such as 17 is connected directly or through a link with a separate rotatable spindle or with a differently threaded portion of the spindle 16.
