Abstract
721,554. Anti-dazzle devices. STREHLE, L. March 14, 1952 [March 15, 1951], No. 6704/52. Class 103 (2). [Also in Group XXXVII] A movable anti-dazzle device for a vehicle comprises a colour filter having a light absorption diminishing from the upper edge to the lower edge and a polarizing filter. The filter comprises a glass or resin plate 1 clamped by plates 4, 5 secured by rivets 6 which may constitute pivots 17, 18 referred to later. A polarizing screen 3 and a light subduing screen 2, having a light absorption diminishing from the upper to the lower edge, are mounted adjacent the plate 1 by hooks 7. The plate 1 is mounted by the pivots 17, 18 on arms 15, 16 pivotally mounted at 13, 12 to the frame 10 of a vehicle windscreen. The distance between the pivots 17, 18 is less than that between pivots 13, 12, of which 12 is higher than 13, so that when the filter is swung from the position shown by full lines to the position 1<SP>1</SP> it will be rotated so that one mitred end of the filter fits in a corner of the windscreen, the path followed by the filter approximating to the movement across the windscreen of dazzling light rays from an approaching vehicle. The arms 15, 16 are each a self-rigid band rolled on a drum round the appropriate pivot and one or two motors driven in synchronism may rotate the drum to extend or contract the arms 15, 16. The motor or motors actuating the arms 15, 16 are controlled by a switch (see Group XXXVII) mounted on the steering column. The members 15, 16 may be telescopic rods.
