Abstract

532,005. Sliding window opening and closing apparatus. DUTFIELD, A. E., RAWLINGS, E. J., and RAWLINGS MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. Aug. 11, 1939, No. 23211. Addition to 411,941. [Class 20 (iii)] In a vertically slidable window of the halfdrop type and in which the movable glass panel 2 carries side racks operated by pinions 10 on the ends of a rotatable rod 14 as described in the modification in Specification 439,837, of the device of the parent Specification, the rod is mounted on an unbroken rail 11 of H-section which serves as a channel both for the rod and its operating means, and for the top edges of the fixed panel 1. The inverted channel portion 12 embraces the top of panel 1, and the upper portion encloses bearing blocks 14x for the rod. The rail has extensions 19 secured to the vertical side members 3 of the window so that it serves also as a guard rail. The rod is rotated by a handle 17 and shaft 16 carrying a worm which engages a worm wheel secured to the shaft, and enclosed in a gear box 18.
