Abstract

1505176 Operating vertically sliding double panel windows R F DORGAMBIDE 24 June 1975 [4 July 1974] 26756/75 Heading E2M A double panel window, in which top 2 and bottom 3 sashless glazed panels can slide vertically in guides secured to hollow vertical frame members 4, 5 is operated by means of fours cords 48, 49, 51, 65 which are attached to corner members 61 on the sashes, pass over pulleys 50g, 52g, 50d, 52d, arranged in a horizontal hollow frame member 6, and are secured to runners 46 movable up and down shafts 37 mounted in each member 4, 5 when these shafts are rotated by an external crank mechanism; each shaft 37 being rotatable in a lower bearing block 21 and an upper bearing plate 40 and carrying a pinion 35 which is engaged by a pinion 26 on a crank handle shaft 31 rotatable in the block 21. Each runner 46 has a stud 45 which engages in a helical groove on the shaft and carries a clamp 47 which receives the ends of two cords from one of the windows. Fig. 3 shows the left hand vertical member 4 which contains the operating mechanism for the lower sash 3. Cords 48 and 49 pass from the left hand clamp 47 to a left hand pair of pulleys 50g, 52g. Cord 49 passes over pulley 50g to the left hand corner of sash 3, and cord 48 passes over pulley 50g then through the member 6 to a pulley 52d of a right hand pair of pulleys 50d, 52d and then down to the right hand corner of sash 3. A similar arrangement connects the right hand clamp cords 51 and 65 to the sash 2. Fig. 4 shows the top halves of pulleys 50g, 52g and the bottom halves of pulleys 50d, 52d.
