Abstract

588,803. Windows. BRAYBROOK, V. W. March 8, 1945, No. 5752. [Class 20 (iii)] In a window of the type having upper and lower vertically sliding sashes respectively provided with downwardly and upwardly extending members engaging a toothed wheel or pinion mounted on a fixed axle so that the movement of each sash causes a movement in the opposite direction of the other sash, the upper and lower sashes are separated by a horizontally pivotally hung sash, pivoted on the fixed axles as shown in Fig. 1, the extension members 13 are secured to each side of the sliding sashes 10, 12 and act as weather excluding means and guides for the sashes as the members 13 move in the grooves 14 formed in the window frame jambs 15. Sashchain type rollers 18 are incorporated in the members 13 to engage the toothed wheels or pinions 19 mounted on the fixed axles 20 accommodated in recesses formed in the jambs at each side of the window. The central sash 11 is pivotally hung, preferably mid-way of its height, by projections on the axles entering recesses formed on each side of the sash 11. The sash-chain type rollers may be carried on the wheels 19 and engaging teeth formed on the member 13, which may be made of laminated reinforced synthetic resin. As shown in Fig. 4, the members are secured to the sashes by screws, the members for the top sash being secured to the inside face of the sash stile, and the members for the bottom sash being bent at 13a and secured to the bottom sash stile, which is covered by the removable bead 25.
