Abstract

609,685. Windows. HOLSTED, H. O. March 20, 1946, Nos. 8686 and 8687. Convention dates March 9, 1945, and June 28, 1945. [Class 20(iii)] A rotatable window 1 has a vertical shaft 4 along one side with gear wheels 6 at both ends which are simultaneously rotatable and movable along horizontal casings 8 in the upper and lower frame members 15, the casings being substantially closed in crosssection with one side wall carrying a rack bar 9 and the other a smooth bar 10 which engage respectively with the gear wheel 6 and a roller 7 or the like which is freely rotatable on the shaft. The shaft lies in a recess in a vertical edge of the movable frame and is covered by a frame member 2 with horizontal ears 3 at each end through which the shaft ends pass. The shaft has a bore at its lower end with a ball bearing 11 which runs on the base of the casing or on a raised portion 16 through which drainage channels 17 run. The sloping roof portions 13 of the casing may be integral with the base or made separately and attached thereto. The member 2 may have a convex outer wall which abuts the frame 15 and thus commences the transverse movement when the window is first rotated.
