Abstract

934,156. Sash windows removable from frame. B. E. MENDELSOHN. March 23, 1961 [April 7, 1960], No. 10749/61. Class 20 (3). A sash 24 of extruded aluminium &c., removable from its frame 100, comprises mounted at each side, a flange 46 movable in and out of the track guide channel 110 of the frame. The flange 46, preferably a rubbercovered strip to diminish rattling, so secured at the top and bottom to slidable latches 66, 37, the upper one 66, being friction held in any position, while the lower one 37 is spring- biased outwardly and has to be held manuallly to retain the head 82 clear of the main frame while the sash is swung out about pivots 60 and then tilted in a vertical plane to disengage one of the pivots from the frame, after which the other pivot can be withdrawn. The bolts 66, 37 slide in L-shaped brackets 36, 38, carrying the pivot pins 60 and fitted in channels 34, Fig. 15, in the top and bottom members 20, 22 of the sash, while the limbs 44, 45 fit in similar channels in the stiles. The section of the stiles is shown in Fig. 8, the tip 56 bearing on the inwardly bearing surface 124 of the main frame 100 to prevent the sash entering the track.
