Abstract
568,824. Vehicle windows. CHESTON, A. S., EDMONDS, E. C., CHESTON, B., and OLDHAM, F. A. M. Sept. 29, 1943, No. 15964. [Class 20 (iii)] A vehicle window comprises a frame 1, a horizontally sliding sash 8 provided with a weather excluding bottom bead 12 and guides 15 engaging inverted channels 5 on the frame and a fixed sash 14 secured to the upright flanges of the main frame. Gaps are formed in the channels 5 through which the guides 15 can pass to remove the sliding sash when stops in the frame have been removed to permit the sash to slide into position. A weather strip is carried in the vertical edge of the sliding sash which engages the frame when the sash is in closed position and a rubber strip on the opposite edge of the sliding sash engages the fixed panel in all positions. The window frame is provided with a channel-shaped upright to support the fixed sash at the middle of the window. The fixed sash has a removable glass preferably held in a rubber strip as described in any of the Specifications 442,552, 498,732, 503,308, 521,937, 523,219, 530,985 and 537,111. The edge of the glazing strip 20 is preferably extended over the lip 18b of the sash to engage the channel 5 of the frame. The top guide 6 is welded or otherwise secured to the main frame 1 and lined with felt, rubber, &c., 7. Leaf springs may be secured to the guides 15 to prevent rattling. The complete window may be mounted above an existing vehicle window to give ventilation or may be independently mounted in the vehicle body.
