Abstract

525,916. Vehicle windows. SLEIGH, H. L., CHESTON, A. S., and OLDHAM, F. A. M. March 3, 1939, No. 6950. [Class 20 (iii)] Relates to vehicle windows of the kind comprising a lower sash 3 which is separated from upper fixed and sliding sashes 5, 6 respectively by means of a cross-bar 2. According to the invention, the crossbar has upper and lower channels or grooves for receiving the sashes 3 and 5, and carries a detachable guiderail 15 for the sliding sash 6. The cross-bar shown is of hollow construction and is formed with flanges 10 - 13 which form channels for receiving rubber glazing strips 4, 7 for the sashes 3, 5. Similar glazing strips are also fitted to the window frame 1. The guiderail is secured in position by screws 16 which pass into a fibre filling strip 14 mounted in the hollow interior of the cross-bar. A groove in the cross-bar receives a rib 17 on the rail to ensure a correct positioning of the latter. The sliding sash slides in a channel 21 of the frame 1 and its lower edge is formed with a channel 19 fitted with a lining 20 of rubber or felt which fits over the upper edge of the guide-rail. A draught - excluding strip of rubber adapted to engage with the sliding sash is fitted to the adjacent vertical edge of the sash 5. The glazing strips may be of the constructions described in Specifications 442,552, 498,732, 503,308 and 505,960, or in Specification 523,219.
