Abstract

373,285. Horizontally-sliding window sashes. CRITTALL MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. and WALKER, F. P., 210, High Holborn, London. Feb. 26, 1931, No. 6023. [Class 20 (iii).] A window comprises fixed sashes 1 and horizontallysliding sashes 2 guided between separate upper and lower guides secured to the' frame of the window. A removable guide-block 5 and an opening in the top channel 4 permit the sash 2 to be removed. The lower sash 8 'has an L-shaped block 10 secured therein which bears on the sill member 9. In the closed position, weather strips 12, 13, 14 on the sliding and fixed lights engage to form weatherproof joints and, when two sliding lights are provided, an L-shaped member 11 is secured to one which overlaps the meeting edges of the closed sashes and forms a weathertight joint, Fig. 12. A spring 18 prevents, rattling by engaging the meeting edges of the sliding sashes.. The sliding lights may be carried by a roller and a track secured to the sill. Sufficient space may be provided in the top channel to permit the sliding sash to be removed by lifting when in the fully open position, filling strips being provided to prevent removal at other positions..The members 10 may be wedge-shaped to permit adjustment for wear.
